Shaun Smith is running for the CVUSD Board to put students first, continue to strengthen our schools, protect girls sports and private spaces, keep ideological indoctrination out of the classroom, and lead with transparency.
Meet
Shaun Smith
As a husband, father, and current school board member, I care deeply about the education of our children. All four of our children have attended Chino Valley Unified schools, and our youngest is currently enrolled, giving our family firsthand appreciation for the opportunities this district provides. As a former Computer Science teacher, Cybersecurity professional, Certified First Responder, and community volunteer, I bring practical experience and a proven commitment to our students and families.
- Educational Excellence: Strengthen reading, writing, arithmetic, critical thinking, the arts, and career readiness so every graduate is prepared for college, career, or trade.
- Protecting Girls Sports and Private Spaces: While all students regardless of gender expression deserve a high quality education, no students deserve the privilege of infringing on the rights of other students because of gender expression. Boys are boys, girls are girls, plain and simple.
- Safe Schools: Maintain secure campuses where students thrive and staff are trained and ready. As a current board member, I've already implemented policies to increase camera coverage in the High School parking lots, and have partnered with the Fire District to bring in additional defibrillators onto our campuses.
- Objective Education, not Political Indoctrination: I believe most teachers are passionate about providing high quality, objective education. We will continue to provide a safe environment for teachers to provide fundamental education to our students.
- Transparency: Keep families informed, budgets open, and parents actively involved in their children's education.
Leadership means showing up, listening, making informed decisions, and being accountable to the community. That is how I have served on the Board, and how I will continue to serve. I am proud of the work we have done to ensure all our schools are award winning and delivering results for our students. I want to continue building from that success.

Academic excellence
Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that starts with a strong academic foundation. As a school board member, I will support rigorous curriculum standards, invest in effective teaching practices, and ensure our schools have the resources they need to help students excel — not just in test scores, but in critical thinking, creativity, and a genuine love of learning.
fiscal responsibility
Our schools are entrusted with taxpayer dollars, and that trust demands careful, transparent stewardship. I will push for responsible budgeting, prioritize spending that directly benefits students and classrooms, and hold our district accountable for how every dollar is spent — ensuring resources go where they matter most instead of being lost to waste or bureaucracy.

Parents need to know their children are safe the moment they walk through the school doors. I am committed to working with school administrators, law enforcement, and mental health professionals to maintain secure campuses, address bullying, and support the emotional wellbeing of every student. A safe learning environment isn’t optional — it’s the foundation everything else is built on.

Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers, and their voices belong in the decisions that shape our schools. I will work to increase transparency, improve communication between families and administrators, and create more opportunities for parents to be active partners in their children’s education — because when families and schools work together, students thrive.
